A picnic is a great way for a family to spend time outside together, enjoying the fresh air, and getting in some much-needed quality time. To make it even better, you need some easy and delicious family picnic snacks to enjoy together.
These meals won’t take long to make up, and they are great to eat cold during the picnic.
Ham And Cheese Sandwiches
Classic ham and cheese sandwiches are always great to have at a picnic. To stop the bread becoming soggy, you can toast it before packing them. This melts the cheese as well, making it even more delicious! Use any ham you would want, your favourite cheese and some mustard and mayonnaise, and even pickles, for a punch of flavour.
Chicken Pasta Salad
Chicken pasta salad is ideal for a picnic because it tastes wonderful served cold! You can pretty much use whatever pasta shape you want, from screws to penne, and add in other vegetables, cheeses and spices to liven up the pasta. Place the pasta into a tight container so there is no chance it could spill in your picnic bag and you are ready to go.
For a healthy, yet sweet snack, you should pack a fruit salad for your picnic. What fruits you use will depend on what season you are in, but you can’t go wrong with mixing any fruit together. Take a tub of yogurt or cream along to enjoy with the fruit salad.
You can either choose to take plain hummus and pita chips with to your picnic, or you can go all out and make some loaded hummus beforehand. You can take some liberties when deciding what to top the hummus with, but good ideas include cucumber, pepperdews, feta and halloumi. Don’t forget the tortilla or pita chips to scoop up the dip.
Mini pies are easy to make at home if you purchase some puff pastry from the store, and whip up a quick filling such as a cheese or chicken filling. You can bake them the night before and wrap them up to take along to the picnic. You can enjoy the pies cold.
If you have any leftover puff pastry, you can layer it with some custard and top it off with a little more pastry. Bake this in the oven and once cooked, top it with some icing. Slice the custard slices and keep them in the fridge. They are the perfect picnic dessert!
Everyone loves cupcakes, and if you don’t feel like baking them from scratch, you can get a box mix of cupcakes from the store. Decorate them with some fruit or sprinkles and treat yourselves!
Cheese And Prosciutto Skewers
These require no cooking at all, and take a short amount of time to prepare. Choose some of your favourite cheese and cut it into squares. Cut pieces of prosciutto and layer the cheese cubes and prosciutto onto a wooden skewer. This is a hit with both kids and adults!
These easy and delicious family picnic snacks are sure to be a hit!
