If going away to a campground is a bit too much right now, you can set up camping in your backyard. Include everything you would if you were camping for real, such as the tent, s’mores, sleeping bags, flashlights, and some spooky stories!
This is a great way to feel like you have escaped the rush of everyday life, without having to leave your home. It is especially great to camp in the backyard when it is a clear night.
Set up a fun scavenger hunt for the family to do. It is best if you break up into teams and have a list of things to look for. Try to include some fun and wacky items or things to find, such as someone doing a handstand or a funny hairstyle.
Give each team a phone or camera to take photos of all the scavenger items on their list.
If your kids are old enough, you can give them some cooking lessons at home. This could be teaching them how to make their favourite food such as pizza or mac ‘n cheese, or teaching them how to make a classic family recipe.
Buy all the ingredients during the day and set it all up nicely. For some extra special touches, you can buy them their own chef aprons and cooking utensils to use! This is a great way to teach them kitchen safety rules as well. You could all also cook along to Youtube tutorials, learning a new recipe together.
For a traditional family night in, you can’t get better than games night! You don’t have to stick to the boring games that kids end up falling asleep through, you can purchase some really fun games online that the whole family will enjoy.
You can even set up a digital quiz night and invite other families to take part in from the comfort of their own homes as well. Another option is to battle it out on the Xbox or Playstation, playing some kid-friendly games.
Throw a blanket down in the living room, order some pizza, and spend some much-needed family time bonding over a delicious slice. Sometimes you don’t need to plan out family night too much, just enjoying some takeout pizza together on the living room floor is all you need.
