With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it is time to start with the Valentine’s Day crafts. We could all do with some extra love this year!
If you are stuck on what to make with this year, here are some great ideas of Valentine’s Day craft ideas to do with the kids!
The gifts are suitable for friends, family, teachers, or even to put up on display in your home. You do not need too many craft supplies to do them either!
Stuffed Fabric Hearts
Stuffed fabric hearts are so great to make with kids aged 4 and up. The little hearts can be given as an extra with a present, or even turned into a keychain.
You will need:
- Large plastic sewing needle
- Thread
- Felt material
- Stuffing
Method:
- Fold the felt material in half and draw out the shape of a heart.
- Cut along this outline with the material doubled.
- Using the thread and needle, show your child how to sew the edges of the heart together.
- Before sewing it together completely, stuff the heart with the stuffing.
- Sew it shut and tie the thread off.
Not only do you get to make cute little hearts, but it is a great way to teach kids about the basics of sewing!
Valentine’s Day Cards
It isn’t Valentine’s Day if you haven’t made homemade Valentine’s Day cards with the kids!
The beauty of making cards is that there are no limits. You can use any techniques you choose, and paper, cardboard, or material, and just have such fun with it all.
Encourage your kids to think outside of the box this Valentine’s Day when it comes to making cards!
Felt Heart Coasters
Something a little different, felt heart coasters are perfect to decorate the table when you have Valentine’s Day dinner at home with the family, or stacked up and tied prettily as a gift to a teacher or friend.
You will need:
- Felt material
- Thread
- Large plastic Needle
- Craft Glue
Method:
- Make templates of different size hearts on cardboard, cut these out.
- Trace the templates on different coloured felt and cut these out.
- Stick the different size hearts on top of each other using craft glue, and then use the thread to decorate around the edges with some stitches.
- If you have a glue gun, you could glue little dots underneath the bottom heart to make it non-slip.
Not all the heart coasters need to be the same, get the kids to layer different colours and experiment with different designs to make them all unique.
String Art Heart
String art is a fun craft for both kids and adults. You only need a few items to get started, and the finished piece will be good enough to hang in your home.
You will need:
- Wooden plank or block
- Nails either 0.5-1 inch in length, with a wide head
- Wool in a chosen colour
- Hammer
Method:
- Draw the heart on a piece of cardboard. When you are happy with the shape and design, cut it out.
- Trace this onto the piece of wood in pencil.
- Start by carefully hammering the nails along the pencil outline of the heart.
- Once all the nails have been hammered in, you can tie the wool onto one nail, and start weaving and looping it around different nails until the picture is complete!
These are some great Valentine’s Day craft ideas to do with the kids that they will absolutely love!
